The Phlebotomy 360 hour program, which includes and requires 160 externship hours, teaches the basic knowledge and skills to successfully perform phlebotomy procedures.  Topics include the functions of the medical laboratory, infection control and lab safety, medical terminology, laboratory requisition processes, and blood collection equipment.  Additional topics include patient identification and preparation, anatomical site selection, order of draw, geriatric and pediatric draw techniques and difficult draws.  Emphasis is placed on the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system. Students have the opportunity to practice capillary draws and venipunctures.

Prerequisites:

  • No felonies
  • Current immunizations:  HEPB, TBT, MMR
